Reduce, Reuse and Recycle…After School Care Kids Raise Money for Library

The After-School Care kids are making a difference today by collecting old cell phones, inkjet cartridges and laser cartridges.  Not only will they be doing their part to: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, but they will also be helping the Kendallville Public Library raise money.  For each cell phone and ink cartridge collected, the library will earn money when it’s turned in to be recycled.  If you would like to help by recycling your personal or business items, look for the collection boxes near the Circulation Desk in May. Each item collected will be re-entering the consumer market as an environmentally conscious and cost-effective alternative to the original manufacturer brand.

Did you know:

More than 300 million cartridges end up in our landfills each year which is more than $450 million dollars being thrown away?

Approximately 90% of printer cartridges are recyclable but only about 20% get recycled?

Unused, broken, and obsolete cell phones add up to over 65,000 tons of waste each year (much of which is toxic)?
