The Kendallville and Limberlost Public Libraries are now
Green!

The Kendallville and Limberlost Public Libraries have made a change that will open up a new realm of possibilities for all its patrons.

Evergreen Indiana (EI) cardholders have access to over one and a half million items in 44 library systems (and counting!) across the state. That means patrons of the Kendallville and Limberlost Public Libraries will be able to search the EI online catalog, place holds on books and audio books at any other Evergreen Library, and have them sent to either the Kendallville or Limberlost Public Library for pickup.

With one new library card, patrons will be able to visit any other EI library in the area or all around the state, when they’re traveling. The materials can be returned to whatever EI library is most convenient. New library cards are expected to be available soon.

Patrons can still manage their own account online, just like they do now. Plus, there is the added bonus of creating virtual “bookbags” that they can share with their friends. Learn how to use the new online system with a hands-on class!

Adult Services Librarian Mary Hartman will offer personal assistance with these topics and more during her class, Online with Evergreen Indiana. There are plenty of class dates and times to choose from.

The classes are free, but pre-registration is required at least one business day before the program. To sign up, stop by or call either library. You can also email your name, phone number, and the class date and location you would like to attend to info@kendallvillelibrary.org.

Patrons who provide the library with their email address will also receive a reminder email three days before their items are due. It’s a great way to prevent fines before they happen!

Patrons who live in the Noble County Public Library district (Albion, Avillla, Cromwell) will get an EI card from their home library. Once they do, they can use that card at the Kendallville and Limberlost Public Libraries.

Patrons who use the Kendallville and Limberlost Public Libraries, but who are a reciprocal borrower from a library not in the EI system, will still receive an Evergreen Indiana card. However, it will be restricted for use only at the Kendallville and Limberlost Public Libraries. An example would be patrons who live in LaGrange County but have a Kendallville and Limberlost Public Library card.

Other EI member libraries in the area include: the Noble County Public Library, Butler Public Library, Carnegie Public Library of Steuben County, Milford Public Library, Waterloo-Grant Township Public Library and the North Webster Community Public Library. A complete list is available at the bottom of this page. More libraries are joining all the time!

As a member of Evergreen Indiana, the Kendallville and Limberlost Public Libraries will be making a few changes in policy to comply with EI guidelines.

Every patron must have their library card with them to check out materials. Cards are free when applying for a library card for the first time, or replacing the current library card with the new EI card. Patrons who lose their card will be charged a $2.00 replacement fee. Patrons who don’t have their library card when they want to check out materials can either allow their materials to be held for them for a short time while they retrieve their card or can choose to pay the $2.00 replacement fee for a new card.

Each patron will be able to have up to 100 items checked out (total from all EI libraries), which can include up to 10 DVDs and 10 VHS movies.

Loan periods for most items will change, as well. Books, audio books, magazines and some other items will be checked out for 21 days. Patrons will have quicker access to DVDs, VHS movies and CD-ROMS with a new seven day loan period. Best-seller cart books will remain on a seven-day loan period.

Patrons who provide the library with a valid email address will receive overdue notices three days before their items are due. If items are late, fines are 25₵ per day per item, up to a maximum fine of $10.00 per item. There is no grace period for overdue items.

If fines exceed $10.00, or a patron has 15 overdue items, they will be blocked from checking out additional materials. These maximums include items checked out or fines from any Evergreen Indiana library.
